"Two years ago my wife was diagnosed with lymphoma. As a physician specializing in treating cancer in children, I thought I knew a lot about cancer. But there was remarkably little in my training and experience that could prepare me to help a loved one battle cancer. We had as many opportunities to make choices as we had situations where there was no choice. I relied heavily on the advice of colleagues and friends to help me understand the difference. In my current practice, I have a expertise in leukemia, lymphomas, sarcomas and bone marrow transplant. I have a research laboratory dedicated to identifying new and novel therapeutic strategies for children with cancer. Together these personal, clinical and research experiences give me the knowledge and expertise to help guide patients and families through the maze of decisions necessary in battling childhood cancer."
